Over the last few years, Accounting and Finance professionals had to adapt rapidly to a new norm. As for many job specialisations, COVID accelerated digital transformation and the call for a new workforce.
The demand for accounting professionals is back to the pre-COVID level, but the talent pool is limited. According to our survey, 35.78% of ANZ employers hiring accounting and finance professionals have been experiencing a slight decrease in the number of candidate applications.
In June 2021, the federal government added five accounting occupations back to its Migration Skilled Occupation List to attract overseas talent. However, border restrictions and solid hiring intention over the next six months - 56.88% of accounting and finance employers expect an increase of headcount - will accelerate candidate shortage and might increase salaries.
Meanwhile, the Fintech industry continues to gain traction in Australia and APAC with ever-evolving customer preferences. In 2020, the fintech sector saw the highest number of APAC users, with over two billion people using digital payments.
